My new addiction.....

These are my first four Polyvore set's on my new account, I forgot just how addictive it can be. The last time I used it I was still in high school wasting time with my friend Jessie doing "Research" for sewing class. So after my afternoon of Polyvore addiction I've decided on a new "mini-column" which feature's on the side of my blog that will showcase my most recently made set's, however I will also upload them to Facebook and you can also see them on my Polyvore page.

This new little mini-column is also my way of trying to incorporate more fashion into Lace Knickers as it is my life's passion, without taking away my ability to continue writing a random array of articles. Oh and if you have your own Polyvore or are just starting one email me the link? I'd be so interested to see your own style and take on presentation!

Lace Knickers Zine

So with uni officially finished I now how four month's in which to work, sleep and..... do nothing.
GREAT!?

No, no not really not at all, it's third day in and all ready I’m biting at the bit. Yesterday we went down to the public library that has quite a large (in my opinion) Zine collection. I have noticed these before and had a brief flick though but I've never taken much notice until now. I've found that I'm one of those people that hate's not having anything to do, I feel fat, lazy and ignorant when I sit about browsing the web for the millionth time. Not that I don't love it, but ooooh I get frustrated sitting down with no aim. So I have decided to create my own Zine, there's a chance it won't follow the traditional format with lots of hand-rendered content because I love the crisp, clean feel of a magazine. But it will be a random assortment of photo's, art, fashion, stories, love and what ever else pour's out of my head and onto the screen/ page.

I've done a few draft pages’ pages already and due to printing costs the whole lot will be black and white. I'm thinking standard envelope size so longish and not very wide. But I'll have it all worked out soon enough. I hope to have the Zine finished by the time I leave for New York, that way I can scatter a few around when I get there, and a few around Wellington and in all the in-between place's. I'm so excited now, that I can hardly wait.

The Zine will be called Lace Knickers, because in a way it'll be an extension of my blog, and who knows if there's enough interest I might make it a quarterly affair, but I must calm down and stay on track. Here's a few picture's of my draft page's. But they'll most likely change with time.

Anyway, lots to do!

Time for tea

The last week of university is finally here and so this weekend it's been go, go, go with homework. God, I am so happy that I study art rather than science because the homework is so less tedious, for me anyway. So this weekend Jake and I shot the final series for my Art and Design with the modeling help of my friend Ellie. The shoot was done in our makeshift studio, i.e. A1 paper taped together and it worked better than you'd think. The whole series is loosely commenting on vegetarianism and the over sexualizing of female's. Give it a look and tell me what you think.

I ♥ Typography

Sooo, exciting my catalog from Photo-Lettering.com just arrived and it is insanely gorgeous! I just wish I was eligible to take Typography at uni, because it really is one of my BIG obsessions and I'm afraid their catalog has just fueled my lust. The fonts were a casualty of the digital publishing revolution. However House Industries acquired the collection in 2003 and made them once again accessible for public use.

I've taken some photo's of my favorite pieces, check them out, oh and by the way you can order your own catalog here.

Beautiful isn't it?

Day to Day Design

Well, the sausage sizzle was a flop! I mean I did have the odds stacked against me:
1) It was Friday and nobody (!) Goes to uni on a Friday
And
2) It was Windy and Rainy

So I earnt $34 therefore gaining a $3 profit! Great! NYC here I come! Just kidding. However I do plan on doing one in the city next weekend so fingers crossed I sell all my sausages and make a bit of dough!

However, that hardly makes for an interesting blog post so moving on!

Ok, so I have a secret, I'm a bit of a collector / hoarder, and no not the type that can't see their floor and are seen on 20/20. Actually as soon as I find something not in regular use I usually throw it out as I can't stand clutter, so I'm making a bit of a contradiction! But when I do find interesting business cards, tags or unused napkins I take them away with me and have built up a bit of a collection!

So I have taken / gotten Jake to take a few photos of my favorites, all of these are quite recently collected too:

I picked this one up when I recently buying a jacket from this shop I love the simplicity and it's very reminiscent of the Chanel card lower down.

I haven't actually been here, but it's a hairdressers and it's very cute from what I've seen through the windows. It’s all very stylized with retro hairdryers in the window and funky furniture.

This is a cute little vintage boutique that specializes in men’s wear, but they do have a few women's items and it's situated next to my all time favorite vintage shop Aeon!

This is adverting a German art exhibition at my university, which I really keep meaning to go to .he design is very simple But I like the semitransparent nature of the colored text.

Very similar to the Marcs one above, but Chanel did do it first. This was a perfume sample when way back at the beginning of the year I was searching for my perfect scent. But anyway I love the clear cut spaced lettering and the simple black on white.

I should possibly start to show more design-y type things on here as design is more my passion than anything else. So, I vow to try, although I am seeing the last Harry Potter tomorrow night so if it's good I'll possibly rave on about that. Ohh we shall just have to see I guess...

When life presents a challenge battle with... Irony?

So, I know I have seemingly joined the ranks of the many bloggers that went under in three months! BUT! I am determined to trudge on and continue writing this!

So as I mentioned a looong time ago I'm going to NYC in November and in order to ensure that I am able to go and exhibit, and experience I am doing a few fundraisers! My first one is tomorrow and gosh I hope it doesn't rain. Ironically I'm doing a sausage sizzle, which is doubled by the fact that while I am vegan my boyfriend and helper is vegetarian.... I know it's quite the gimmick.

Of course I had to advertise the event around my uni and so I tried my hand at graphic design! eeek and well I found that I am defiantly not cut out to be a graphic designer. But I think it will do the job, what do you think?

Well, I now must go off and buy 75 sausages, hmmmm it still doesn't quite feel natural...
